Services

Everything your operation needs to clear Brazilian customs

We work on every stage of the clearance process, from the analysis of the goods to the delivery of the final documentation.

  • Import clearance

Filing of the import declaration (DUIMP or DI), calculation and payment of duties and taxes, and follow-up on the inspection channel and any customs requirements until the cargo is released.

  • Export clearance

Filing of the export declaration (DU-E) in the Siscomex Single Window (Portal Único) and follow-up on cargo presence and clearance until the goods are shipped.

  • Tariff classification (NCM)

Technical analysis of the goods to determine the correct NCM code (Mercosur Common Nomenclature) — the basis for taxes, licenses and benefits — and avoid penalties.

  • Licensing and consenting agencies

Licenses, permits and certificates (LPCO) and import licenses (LI) with MAPA (agriculture), Anvisa (health), Inmetro, the Brazilian Army and other agencies that control the entry and exit of your goods.

  • Radar registration

Preparation and follow-up of your company’s application for authorization to operate in Siscomex (Radar), in the express, limited or unlimited modality.

  • Special regimes and incentives

Drawback, temporary admission, bonded warehousing (entreposto aduaneiro) and ex-tarifário duty reductions, to reduce or suspend taxes when the operation qualifies.

How long does customs clearance take?

It depends on the inspection channel that the Federal Revenue Service assigns to the declaration. In the green channel, the cargo can be released on the same day the declaration is filed. In the yellow and red channels the documents are examined and, in the red channel, the goods as well, which usually takes a few days.

What shortens this time the most is having correct and complete documentation from the start.

What are the green, yellow, red and gray channels?

They are the inspection levels the Federal Revenue Service applies to each import:

  • Green: automatic release, without inspection.
  • Yellow: examination of the documents.
  • Red: examination of the documents and physical inspection of the goods.
  • Gray: in addition to those checks, the operation goes through a special customs control procedure, usually to verify the declared value or signs of irregularity.
Does a company need Radar registration to import or export?

Yes. To import or export, a company in Brazil must be authorized to operate in Siscomex, an authorization known as Radar. The modality (express, limited or unlimited) depends on the company’s legal form and estimated financial capacity and sets how much it can import per semester; there is no value limit for exports.

We handle the application and recommend the right modality.

What documents are needed to import into Brazil?

The basics are the commercial invoice, the packing list and the transport document: the bill of lading (BL) for ocean freight or the air waybill (AWB) for air freight.

Depending on the goods, a certificate of origin, licenses from consenting agencies (LPCO) and other specific documents may also be required. In the initial review we tell you exactly what your operation will need.

Which taxes apply to imports?

In general: Import Duty (II), the tax on industrialized products (IPI), PIS-Importação, Cofins-Importação and the state tax on goods (ICMS), plus the Siscomex fee and, for ocean freight, the merchant marine surcharge (AFRMM). The rates depend on the NCM code of the goods, which is why correct tariff classification makes such a difference to the cost.

Under Brazil’s tax reform, some of these taxes will be gradually replaced by the IBS and the CBS starting in 2027. We keep track of the changes for you.

What is the DUIMP, and how is it different from the DI?

The Single Import Declaration (DUIMP) replaces the former Import Declaration (DI) in the Siscomex Single Window. In 2026 it is already mandatory for most imports, and the official schedule has the DI being phased out in December 2026. It brings together in one declaration information that used to be spread across several documents and systems, and it uses the company’s product catalog.

We follow the transition and file the declaration in the format required for your operation.

What is the difference between a customs broker and a freight forwarder?

The freight forwarder handles international transport: freight, booking space on the vessel or aircraft, and cargo consolidation. The customs broker represents your company before the Federal Revenue Service and the consenting agencies to clear the goods.

The two roles are complementary, and we work together with the freight forwarder you already use.
